Jefferson County commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding to transfer $80,000 of county ARPA funds to the West Jefferson Fire District for construction and furnishing of a new fire station.
Rebecca, the county official who introduced the item, told the board the amount had already been agreed to by the board and the MOU "just contractualizes that, makes it possible for us to transfer money from 1 agency to another." The MOU was modeled on a prior agreement the board executed with Mud Lake Ambulance.
Commissioners asked whether the fire district had engaged county staff about station planning and reported they had met with the county’s purchasing and operations team. Commissioners moved and seconded the motion to approve the MOU; a roll-call vote followed and the motion passed.
The MOU directs the ARPA funds be used strictly and solely for the construction and furnishing of the fire station. County staff said the legal review had been completed and that finance staff would process the transfer once the signed agreement was on file.
The board did not amend the dollar amount at the meeting and did not place additional conditions beyond requiring use of the funds for station construction and furnishing. Commissioners noted the transfer follows the county’s established ARPA allocation decisions.
