County IT staff requested purchase approval for 12 Dell small form factor desktop PCs to replace machines that are incompatible with the upcoming end of Windows 10 support in October. The presenter said many existing county PCs lack the hardware specifications to upgrade to Windows 11 and that purchasing new units was the recommended path.
The proposed purchase total was $15,937.68 for 12 PCs. Commissioners discussed hardware life expectancy and the possibility of alternative operating systems (including mention of Linux for servers and longer hardware life), but agreed replacement was the practical step ahead of Windows 10 end‑of‑support.
A motion to approve the purchase was made, seconded and passed by roll call. The county will proceed with the Dell order and IT will manage deployment and user migration.
