“Moving north to the 800 East did not affect the level of service of the overall intersection to any real degree,” a county speaker summarized from the study. Commissioners and staff discussed roundabout placement, right‑of‑way needs, canal crossings, and the need for Bonneville County and the Idaho Department of Transportation to be engaged in design and funding.
Several commissioners said the county should seek agreement with Bonneville County and the state before encouraging developers to pursue large projects that would add traffic: developers who create new subdivisions should expect to contribute to mitigation measures. Commissioners also noted the timeline: state design or construction actions (including any new overpass options) would be years away, while local growth and developer proposals are presenting near‑term impacts.
County planning staff said the county’s transportation plan and the recent traffic work will be added to the comprehensive plan and that more public hearings and policy work will follow. Commissioners scheduled follow‑up coordination meetings with DOT and Bonneville County and flagged a public meeting already set for the 20th at 2 p.m. to continue the conversation.
