The Waterloo Finance Committee on Aug. 4 approved travel requests for nine sets of city employees to attend training and conferences in August, September and October 2025.
Approved requests include Officer Mark Jasper for an IPTM advanced traffic crash investigation online course (not to exceed $1,295), Officer Marcus Harrington for an ILEA patrol rifle instructor school (not to exceed $1,409), a peer support group training for Sergeant Eddie Savage, author Dustin Yates, Officer Tom Schuster, Michelle Boesen and Angie Hayride (not to exceed $29.75), a state laboratory symposium for Kathy Skillings (not to exceed $341), attendance at the Iowa Rural Water Association fall conference for Brad Manal and Nolan Rasmussen (not to exceed $1,237), Captain Gus Farmer for Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command (not to exceed $12,375), Leticia Beasley, housing director, and a to-be-announced housing authority bookkeeper for a Housing Authority Financial Workshop in La Crosse, Wisconsin (not to exceed $2,420), an amended request for Ben Wagner to attend the ESRI user conference (amount not to exceed $25.76 in the transcript), and a group including JD Van Dyke and Dave Jensen to attend the Iowa fire investigation annual seminar (not to exceed $1,890).
During the vote, Miss Rosen said, "I will be abstaining on number 3." The chair noted the abstention and the remainder of the requests passed on a voice vote.
