Council OKs first readings to rename two streets for network alignment and private development

The council approved first readings on Sept. 9 to rename two street segments as part of traffic network alignment and a private development request. Carrie Pauley, the city traffic engineer, presented a proposal to rename Sixteenth Avenue Southeast from the roundabout at Fifth Street Southeast east to Tenth Street Southeast. Pauley said the change creates a through alignment with Tenth Street and conforms to naming for future street network expansion; two properties addressed on that segment were notified and no objections were received. The ordinance passed its first reading on a voice vote after a public hearing with no speakers. Pauley also presented a private request from Fountains LLC to rename the private east-west portion of Excel Drive Northeast (between Fountains Drive and the north-south public portion of Excel Drive) to Reserve Way (transcript: 'Reserve/Reservoir Northeast'). She said no properties are currently addressed on that private portion; the property owner requested the change because of an adjacent development. The first reading of that renaming ordinance was approved following the public hearing with no objections. Both items were brought forward by the Public Works Department with staff recommendation for approval. Council votes on the first readings were unanimous; staff and the council recorded no public objections during the hearings.
