The Waxahachie City Council on May 21 approved a contract with Mecca Construction LLC for Mustang Creek Park improvements with a total cost reported by staff of approximately $745,650, which staff said was under the project budget of $880,000.
Parks staff said the base bid included a looped walking trail around the pond, a new pipe-rail fence, improved parking and drainage work. With accepted bid alternates, staff said the project will extend the trail to just under 1.5 miles north toward the site of a planned Sprouts development, add three 10-by-10 fishing pads with handrails, and install a pond aerator. City staff noted the trail extension positions the park for a future connection to sidewalks required in the Sprouts development’s agreement.
Council approved the contract and authorized the city manager to execute documents. A council member thanked staff for delivering the project approximately $135,000 under budget, per staff remarks at the meeting.
Work is scheduled to proceed consistent with the approved contract and the FY 2024–25 budget allocation; staff will manage permitting and construction oversight.
