The Waxahachie City Council voted to schedule a record‑vote meeting to adopt the city’s fiscal year 2025–26 budget for Sept. 15, 2025, at 7 p.m. at the Waxahachie Civic Center. Council members approved the scheduling after a public hearing on the proposed budget concluded without public speakers.
City staff member Chad introduced the budget item and said the hearing is required by state law. “This is a public hearing. It’s required by Texas Local Government Code 102.007,” Chad said. He told the council the budgeting process involves input from the council, staff and the public and that setting the adoption date is one of the final steps.
A council member moved to set the adoption meeting for Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Waxahachie Civic Center; another council member seconded the motion and members voted in favor by a show of hands. The motion directed that the adoption vote be taken at the council’s next regular meeting as a recorded (roll‑call) vote.
No members of the public spoke during the hearing. After the vote, several council members thanked staff for their work preparing the budget. “It takes months to prepare a budget; a lot of work goes into it,” one council member said, thanking staff for long hours and efforts.
The council will consider the final adoption of the fiscal year 2025–26 budget at the Sept. 15, 2025, meeting at 7 p.m. at the Waxahachie Civic Center.
