The Liberty Hill City Council unanimously approved second readings and adopted two ordinances on Aug. 13 to annex and rezone a roughly 10.002‑acre tract at 8935 West State Highway 29.

Mackenzie Hicks presented the staff report, explaining the property is adjacent to the VISTA 29 parcel and contains existing commercial activity. Hicks summarized that the annexation (ordinance 2025‑O‑025) brings the parcel into the city limits and that zoning (ordinance 2025‑O‑026) would change the tract from the default agricultural district following annexation to the C‑3 commercial district.

The council opened and closed the required public hearings with no speakers. After housekeeping clarifications to the ordinance language, a council member moved to approve the annexation ordinance; the motion was seconded and passed 7–0. The council then approved the zoning map amendment from AG to C‑3 in a separate motion, also passing 7–0.

Why it matters: Annexation and concurrent rezoning allow the city to apply municipal regulations to the property and to permit the commercial land uses the applicant requested. The ordinances include standard findings, severability, and effective‑date provisions.
