Lopez said modernized siren activation is important because phone alerts may not reach sleeping residents. He acknowledged the city has updated its siren system from a previous manual activation method but encouraged staff to review activation criteria and consult peer cities such as Lubbock, Carrollton and Flower Mound for models.
The mayor thanked Lopez for his comments; the council did not take action at the meeting but the request is on the public record as a citizen comment for council and staff consideration.
