Bridgeport hires KSA Engineers to create water-system model, identify infrastructure needs

The Bridgeport City Council authorized the city manager to negotiate nonsubstantive changes and sign a task order with KSA Engineers to develop a water-system model and report.
Lanny Buck of KSA Engineers told the council the analysis will update and compile system maps, apply current and projected demands (five-, 10- and 20-year projections), include pumping and storage data, and use modeling software to identify bottlenecks, head losses and areas needing pipe upsizing or other improvements. "It's a living model for you," Buck said, explaining the model can be reused as developers or industries request service and to help the city prepare a capital improvement plan.
Councilmember Susan Kauffman moved to authorize the city manager to negotiate nonsubstantive changes and sign the proposed task order; Matt Van Hoose seconded the motion, and it passed 3–0. Staff and KSA described the product as a tool to guide future investments, compare alternatives and, if the council chooses, support impact fees for new development. No dollar amount for the task order was presented during the discussion.
Council members noted the timing was appropriate given planned development interest and praised the municipally managed water utility and plant operations. The task order will result in a report with mapped results and a recommended CIP to guide future water and sewer investments.
