Council approves $123,000 Texas Parks and Wildlife grant for Northwest Park improvements

Bridgeport will accept and authorize execution of a combined Texas Parks and Wildlife Department grant totaling $123,000 to add signage and construct an obstacle-course area at Northwest Park, city staff told the council.
Parks and Recreation Director Chris Heasley said the award combines two earlier grant awards into one project. “The entire project's a $123,000. It's a reimbursable grant,” Heasley said, adding the state will reimburse roughly $98,400 when work is complete. Heasley projected the city's direct cash contribution would be about $10,000–$15,000 and staff and volunteer labor would supply additional in‑kind services, estimating roughly 150 staff hours.
Councilmember Matt Van Hoose moved to approve the agreement for Project Bridgeport RT0200001 and to authorize the mayor or city manager to sign related documents; Preston seconded and the motion passed 3-0.
Heasley said the project includes new signage on Highway 114 leading to Northwest Park and construction of an obstacle-course area that will open an additional section of the park. The work is reimbursable to the city upon completion and submission of required documentation to the state.
