Bridgeport council authorizes bids for resurfacing of nine street segments and a small parking lot

The Bridgeport City Council voted unanimously to authorize staff to solicit competitive bids to resurface nine street segments and one parking lot.
James Elliott, the city's public works director, presented the request and said staff seeks permission "to continue and go out for competitive bid for another 9 segments of streets in town." Council president Preston moved to authorize the bidding, Councilmember Susan Kauffman seconded, and the motion passed on a 3–0 vote.
Council members and staff described the work as part of a multi-year paving campaign. One council member said the city has completed "in the neighborhood of 50 plus streets or parts of streets that have been paved or ... improved." Elliott and other staff noted the city is prioritizing streets that do not require major underground utility work to avoid repaving areas that would soon be dug up for sewer or water repairs. The resurfacing authorization includes a small parking area near Champions Park on Tenth Street.
The council did not appropriate funds at the meeting; the vote authorized staff to go to competitive bid. Staff said the city will continue to update inventory maps showing streets completed and planned work.
