The Bridgeport City Council approved acceptance of a $15,000 grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife and authorized the city manager to execute related documents, voting 5‑0 on the motion.
Parks and Recreation Director Chris Healy told the council that the funds come from state OHV (off‑highway vehicle) decal proceeds administered by Texas Parks and Wildlife and that the state required a signed contract by Aug. 1.
Healy said the agency "wanted to give us a $15,000 grant" and that the city expects to include the funds as part of the 20 percent match for a previously approved grant. He added that "most likely some kind of piece of equipment or a trail maintenance is kind of the 2 items that I would most likely see." The council approved giving the city manager authority to sign the contract when it is ready.
Erica, a coordinator with Texas Parks and Wildlife referenced by staff, contacted city staff about the award and requested a signature by the Aug. 1 deadline, according to Healy. Healy also said the city sells the state OHV decal at the park, which factors into the program’s funding distribution.
Sylvia Ramirez moved to accept the grant and authorize the city manager to sign all related documents; the motion was seconded by Matt Van Hoose. The vote in favor was unanimous.
The council did not specify exact projects or vendors for the funds at the meeting; staff said additional details would be worked out with the state and incorporated into the contract once provided.
