The Fredericksburg City Council approved a conditional‑use permit and design corridor application for Port Choices Brewing Company, a proposed microbrewery, taproom and event space on Highway 87 South.

Applicant Rick LaPlante described the business as a family‑friendly taproom with extensive parking (applicant said the plan provides roughly 109 parking spaces versus a requirement of approximately 65) and emphasized low‑impact development measures including water retention and reuse, native drought‑tolerant landscaping and minimizing impervious cover. LaPlante said the site will retain about 18,000 gallons for landscape irrigation and use low‑impact materials for open spaces.

Council and staff praised the applicant for responsiveness to staff comments and for incorporating recommendations from the corridor design review. Staff noted Planning & Zoning unanimously recommended approval and that the council should recognize the conditions attached to the CUP, which include administrative review of civil and site plans and a music curfew among other conditions.

After confirming with staff that the Planning & Zoning conditions would be included, council members praised the application’s thoroughness and staff’s coordination and voted to approve the CUP with the conditions as stated by Planning & Zoning.
