Snyder City approves Chamber budget and agrees to $10,000 fireworks contribution

The Snyder City Council approved the Snyder Chamber of Commerce operating budget for Jan. 1–Sept. 30, 2025 and voted to contribute $10,000 toward the Chamber’s Fourth of July fireworks display.
A chamber representative presented the nine-month operating budget and related hotel occupancy tax (HOT) proposals to the council. The presenter said the chamber expects total supporting revenues of $345,600 and total expenses of $363,004.77 for the period, a shortfall of $17,008.77; the presenter told council that restricted fund balance from prior years would cover the deficit. The packet also included travel-and-tourism and HOT event fund figures and a quarterly Texas hotel performance summary.
Council members asked how net operating shortfalls would be covered. The chamber presenter said the restricted fund balance (reported as $179,564 as of Dec. 31) would cover the projected shortfall. The presenter also explained a transfer of $8,000 from advertising and promotion into a travel-and-tourism line and said some program requests will be presented later in the fiscal year.
Separately, the chamber requested city assistance to help defray the cost of a $20,000 fireworks display from pyrotechnician Rich Fire LLC and asked the city to contribute the same amount as the prior year, $10,000. A council member moved to approve a $10,000 city contribution for the fireworks; a second was received and the motion passed unanimously.
Chamber events coordinator Josh Bordigan gave an update on upcoming Chamber events and initiatives: a March 17 chamber banquet with a “murder mystery” theme; a Snyder Big Deal Pickleball Tournament (open doubles, $40 per team and a $5 spectator fee, ages 10–99); a June Western Swing Festival (ticket sales ongoing); a proposed July coliseum tournament expected to draw more than 100 teams; a planned Gravel Grind ride (route and date to be finalized by committee); and the White Buffalo Art Trail, for which the chamber has ordered an initial 13 statues due in May. The chamber representative said event sponsors and ticketing will be handled through local channels and noted the HOT fund process and timing.
After discussion the council voted to approve the chamber budget and the fireworks contribution as moved.
