Snyder City Council approves electronic sign permit for Choice Dynamic Media, conditioned on TxDOT approval

The Snyder City Council voted unanimously to approve an application from Choice Dynamic Media LP to install an electronic monopole sign near the Dollar General, with final permitting conditioned on approval from the Texas Department of Transportation.

The permit applicant, Ty Jones of Choice Dynamic Media LP, told the council the sign would sit behind and above the Dollar General pole sign on a single monopole and would include an electronic display on one side. Jones said he had already invested in engineered site-specific drawings and described the proposed structure as engineered to local requirements. He also explained that Choice Dynamic Media’s contracts with landowners prohibit advertising for certain products and services.

Council members questioned permitting steps, resubmittal requirements and coordination with state right-of-way rules. Jones described a multi-step process he has navigated in other cities, said he began the application process in 2021, and explained that the city required finalized drawings earlier than some other jurisdictions. He also described spacing limits that can prevent an electronic sign from being placed too close to other digital signs and said monitoring of displayed content was part of his company’s practice.

City staff member Kelly assisted with application clarifications during the discussion and worked with the applicant on timing and documentation. After discussion, a council member moved to approve the electronic sign permit application submitted by Choice Dynamic Media LP, conditioned on TxDOT approval; another council member seconded the motion. The council voted in favor and the mayor declared the motion unanimous.

The permit is approved conditionally: the city’s action authorizes local approval to move forward but requires the applicant to secure any TxDOT permits or approvals necessary before construction or activation.
