Veteran Ronald Neldin honored for donating EnChroma glasses to Rio Rancho students

The Rio Rancho Public Schools Board of Education on April 28 recognized U.S. Air Force veteran Ronald Neldin for donating color-assist glasses to students with color-vision deficiencies.
Wyndham Kemsley, executive director of communications, described the program and invited Neldin to the podium. Neldin said he has donated roughly 50 pairs over four years and that nine pairs were distributed to middle and high school students at this year’s event. He told the board the donations grew from his desire to give back following a traumatic event during his military service and described parents’ strong gratitude and the visible emotional impact when students saw colors more clearly for the first time.
Superintendent Dr. Visa Cleveland and board members thanked Neldin and said the district appreciates the long-running community support. Neldin said he and his wife are likely to move out of state but that parents had offered to continue the effort; he also said he would try to find a local successor if he cannot continue the program.
