Board recognizes DECA state winners and district CTE participation

Rio Rancho Public Schools recognized DECA State winners and the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program during the May 12 board meeting.
Larry Davis, director of CTE, said the district supports 18 distinct CTE pathways and that DECA is among the most populated pathways, serving about 375 students across both comprehensive high schools. Davis and DECA advisors said the district sent roughly 87 students to state competitions this year out of about 124 DECA members at one school; overall the program qualified many students for national competition.
Presenters named several state winners and noted that eight students took first place in their events at state; four students were present to accept recognition at the meeting. Rio Rancho High School and Cleveland High School advisors described the growth of their chapters, national competition participation and leadership conferences. Students and advisors said DECA provides career exploration and real‑world experiences; the district’s CTE funding and teacher support were credited for enabling student travel and conference participation.
The board applauded the students, advisors and CTE staff and took a group photo with award recipients.
