The Rio Rancho Public Schools Board accepted a $10,000 donation from the Rio Rancho Education Foundation on June 9 to support Rio Tech, the district’s new career and technical education campus scheduled to open in August.
Doctor Christopher Johnson, the Rio Tech principal, and representatives of the Rio Rancho Education Foundation introduced the gift. Jessica Miranda, president of the Rio Rancho Education Foundation, said the donation will expand hands-on applications and provide free promotional materials to help students share progress and stories from Rio Tech.
Superintendent Veesu Cleveland and board members thanked the foundation for the contribution and presented a certificate to Miranda. A motion to accept the donation was made and passed by roll-call vote (see actions). The board noted the gift supports start-up needs for the new campus but did not change district budget baselines.
