Board repeals Policy 7-12 and incorporates provisions in consolidated Policy 7-11

The Rio Rancho Public Schools Board of Education on April 28 approved the repeal of Board Policy 7-12 (employee use of tobacco products), saying the substantive prohibitions have been merged into an updated Policy 7-11.
Executive Director of Human Resources Mike Chavez explained the repeal is administrative: Policy 7-12 will be removed and the provisions reflected within the more comprehensive 7-11. General counsel David Mann and HR staff told the board the policy will appear on the website with strikethrough language indicating repeal until a final consolidated policy is published and slotted into the policy sequence.
Board members asked that the website notation make the change clear to the public so constituents do not mistakenly think the district has abandoned tobacco prohibitions. Jessica Tyler moved to approve the repeal; Jeff Morgan seconded. The board approved the repeal by roll call, 5–0.
