Superintendent Dempsey and Alta Vista staff told the board Tuesday that Alta Vista Early College High School is ranked number one in Dona Ana County by US News & World Report. "Right now, Alta Vista Early College High School is ranked number 1 in the county," Dempsey said, noting the report evaluates nearly 14,000 high schools.
Alta Vista representatives thanked the board for recognizing the honor. "This accomplishment belongs to our incredible students and to the teachers and staff who support them each day," said a representative from Alta Vista, who introduced several staff in the room including Catherine Angel (counselor), Dr. Rachel Acuna (science teacher), and Saul Almeida (history teacher). Alta Vista staff emphasized the combined efforts of educators and students in achieving the ranking and pledged continued commitment to "representing both Alta Vista Early College High School and the Gadsden Independent School District with excellence." The board presented a token of recognition to school staff.
No formal action was required for the recognition item; it was presented as a district update.
