District 211 board accepts retirements, appoints assistant principal and treasurer, and lists residential property for sale

The Township High School District 211 Board of Education on Monday accepted multiple retirements, approved administrative appointments and authorized a property listing as part of its business agenda.
The board accepted retirement requests from a list of employees in accordance with the District 211 Teachers Union master contract. The acceptance was approved by roll call.
Effective July 1, 2025, the board appointed Liza Sullivan as assistant principal at Palatine High School with a gross annual salary of $135,500. The appointment was made by motion and approved by roll call.
The board adopted a resolution appointing Kathy Zalewski as school treasurer to fulfill the remainder of the two-year treasurer term from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, following the retirement of Barb Peterson. The board also approved treasurer bonds for Kathy Zalewski and Chief Operating Officer Lauren Hummel with Liberty Mutual for a combined total of $57,586.
From closed session the board authorized settlement in a pending workers27 compensation matter (motion approved by roll call) and accepted a long list of retirements effective May 2029 in accordance with the collective-bargaining agreement.
The board further established an initial list price of $1,035,000 for the district-owned residential property at 1527 Louise Lane in Palatine, authorized listing on the multiple listing service for the required minimum 14 days and empowered the superintendent or designee to sign a listing agreement on the board's behalf.
Board member Van Dyke commented in support of district hands-on programs tied to properties used for student learning: "I just wanna say how fabulous is it is that we have this program for our kids. ... Just to have this for our kids is just wonderful," he said at the meeting.
Action: Motions to accept retirements, appoint Sullivan, appoint Zalewski, secure treasurer bonds and list the property all passed by roll call votes.
