District 211 recognizes dozens of state-level student winners across BPA, debate, gymnastics and athletics

Township High School District 211 recognized students, coaches and sponsors from across the district for state- and regional-level accomplishments in Business Professionals of America (BPA), debate and student congress, gymnastics, Special Olympics and girls basketball.

The recognitions, presented during the board meeting, highlighted multiple state champions and All-State honorees across schools in the district. Palatine student Dave Duper was recognized after winning first place in the state Personal Financial Management BPA event; the coach noted Duper had placed second as a sophomore and fourth in nationals the prior year. Conant sophomore Austin Wu reported a first-place finish in advanced spreadsheet applications at the state BPA competition. Schaumburg and Fremd BPA programs also brought first-place state winners and finalists; Schaumburg’s Peritas Picassia won state in fundamentals of web design.

Debate coaches and teams received multiple acknowledgments: Palatine’s Lincoln-Douglas competitor Ishan Mishra was introduced as the state champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate; several Palatine team members earned All-State speaker honors and state championship titles in team events. Fremd and Hoffman Estates coaches similarly recognized state semifinalists, finalists and top-ranked speakers; Hoffman Estates’ parliamentary procedures and payroll accounting competitors were singled out.

Athletics and other activities were also honored: Palatine girls gymnastics finished the season 8–0, won the MSL division and were regional champions; Jolie Waddington—an IHSA regional and sectional champion—qualified in all four events and earned multiple finals placements. Fremd girls basketball was recognized for a 30–6 overall season and a 10–0 conference record, with several senior players committed to collegiate programs. Special Olympics snowshoeing athletes earned state medals and were highlighted for their dedication.

Coaches and sponsors repeatedly thanked the board, superintendent and families for support. Gary Schumacher, debate head coach, said the board’s backing of debate "is not a given across all districts" and described District 211’s support for a varsity state tournament as distinctive. Coaches emphasized research and speaking skills developed through debate and thanked assistant coaches and families for their contributions.

These recognitions showcased a range of academic and extracurricular achievements across Township HSD 211 schools and underscored the district’s emphasis on activities that build student leadership and scholarship.
