The Learning and Teaching committee reported Sept. 8 that district elementary enrollment matched the demographer's projection of 4,800 students, and that no elementary schools are so overcrowded that students must be sent outside their attendance area.
A committee representative summarized the August enrollment review, saying elementary enrollment was "almost a dead unmatched, statistically speaking." The committee reported the district is 13 students under the elementary projection and noted variations at the school level owing to programmatic changes.
The committee said middle and high school enrollment figures are close to expectations as well. Administrators and committee members said the boundary resets implemented earlier this year appear to have met the board's space standards and prevented the need for caps or forced transfers.
The committee also reported an early-stage multilingual K–5 implementation. Mr. Buxton (multilingual program lead) presented success criteria for the rollout and the committee said it will revisit the multilingual program's progress in November or December. The committee noted that parent feedback was limited because this was the first week of school but described the initial feedback as positive.
The report was informational; no board action or policy change on boundaries or enrollments was recorded at the meeting.
