The school district reported a positive start to the school year and told the board Sept. 8 that its CLEAR residency verification process has been largely completed, with staff planning further communication about registration processes this fall.
Superintendent Dr. Gordon told the School Board that a video and an in-person ice cream social highlighted school openings and staff work across the district. "We've had, I think an awesome start to the school year," Dr. Gordon said, and described the district's focus on "starting strong" and on belonging across schools.
Dr. Gordon and staff said the CLEAR residency effort — a district verification process spanning early childhood through transitions — has been completed for nearly all cases discussed during the district's initial audit. "Of those 14, 13 have, ensured that all of their paperwork's in," Dr. Gordon said. He added that the remaining family is moving to its home district and that administrators will present a process update to the board in October.
The superintendent described community events used to build staff and family connections, saying about "close to 200 staff members" helped serve ice cream at the kickoff and that a visiting Nashville recording artist performed for attendees. The district said weather briefly affected the event but did not prevent it from proceeding.
Discussion-only items included a plan to communicate an "updated process around October" for registration and CLEAR follow-up through the fall and winter, and a pledge to continue tightening registration procedures for the coming year. No formal policy change or board vote on CLEAR was recorded during the open meeting portion.
Board members offered verbal recognition of the staff work reported; Dr. Gordon said he and other staff will return in October with further details on the verification process and next steps.
