During the meeting’s recognition segment, the board highlighted Naperville Central senior and Illinois Global Scholar capstone student Alice Porfiropoulos, who was cited for authorship of House Bill 2517, now state law. According to the board’s announcement, the law — sponsored in the Illinois House by Representative Janet Yang Rohr — requires Illinois health professionals to complete at least one hour of professional development on maternal mortality covering CDC statistics, risk factors affecting marginalized groups and programs proven to reduce maternal deaths and complications.
The board said Alice’s research focused on racial disparities in maternal health and mortality among Black and Hispanic women. The district noted the achievement was acknowledged by Illinois Speaker of the House Chris Welch in his newsletter and that this is the seventh Illinois law created by capstone students from Naperville Central.
Separately in the meeting’s recognition and announcements, the district said a new health clinic is open to employees, spouses and dependents covered under the district health plan. The priority‑care clinic, operated through Marathon Health, will provide direct primary care and mental health services to eligible employees and family members as a new employee benefit.
No action items were taken on either announcement; both were presented as recognitions and district operational updates.
