At a meeting of the Naperville Community Unit School District 203 Board of Education, members voted to approve a four-year collective bargaining agreement with the Naperville Unit Education Association (NUEA). The contract was presented to the board after the union membership ratified a tentative agreement.
A staff member told the board that the district and NUEA had reached a tentative agreement, that NUEA membership had ratified it, and recommended board approval: "I'd recommend you approve the contract, the collective bargaining agreement with NUEA, as presented." The board moved and seconded the motion to approve item 5.01 and passed it by roll call.
Board members publicly thanked the negotiating teams. Board member Joe Kosminski said, "I'd just like to thank the bargaining team for the countless hours they put in working on this contract and coming to an agreement with the union." Board member Christine Gerke described the effort as reinforcing "how tirelessly folks have worked" since bargaining began, which she said started after a demand to bargain in December and stretched about eight to nine months.
One board member disclosed that their daughter had applied for a part-time job with the district, was not hired, and said they had no financial interest in the contract; the statement was made during the meeting but not tied to a specific vote or change in procedure. Several board members also extended thanks to family members of negotiators for time and sacrifice during long bargaining sessions.
The board's approval was unanimous on the record. The roll-call votes recorded ayes from Joe Kosminski, Amanda McMillan, Mark Wolinski, Christine Gerke, Holly Blastic, and Charles Kush. The staff member said a series of communications about the agreement would be sent to media, staff and the community that evening.
The contract provides fiscal and labor terms over a four-year period; the staff member described the agreement as securing a four-year contract for the district but did not provide a line‑by‑line summary, budgetary totals, or effective dates during the meeting. No amendments or contingency conditions to the board's approval were stated at the time of the vote.
