Commissioners approve DEQ well-sampling permission at fairgrounds, correct earlier site reference

During discussion Brandy, a county staff member, and other staff said DEQ has monitored nitrate and other parameters at various wells in the county since the 1990s to establish long-term trends. The permission form is routine, staff said, and DEQ will work with well owners if upticks are found.
The board initially considered the item as if it were for Circular Butte Landfill, but staff clarified the address on the form is at the fairgrounds. Commissioners instructed the clerk to correct the record to reflect that the sampling permission applies to the fairgrounds. The motion to approve the DEQ sampling permission form passed on roll call.
Staff said the county does not object to DEQ’s sampling and will not impede the agency’s monitoring; the county will share results as appropriate.
