City of Rigby seeks county support for downtown skate park near City Park tennis courts

Representatives from the City of Rigby updated the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners on plans to relocate and rebuild a downtown skate park adjacent to City Park’s tennis courts and asked the county to continue evaluating possible support.
Mitch, speaking for the city, said the current skate park’s location is difficult for law enforcement to monitor and subject to vandalism. He said the council is “on board” and the mayor has signed a letter of support. Mitch told commissioners the city has “room right next to the tennis courts” and that the city would remove the existing park and convert that site to parking and an event center.
City representatives provided a ballpark estimate: “you’re not looking at much, 100 maybe a 100,000,” Mitch said, and suggested the city would pursue grants and some in-kind work. Commissioners said they had not budgeted county funds for the project and that no county commitment was being made at this time.
No county action or funding was approved; commissioners encouraged continued coordination between the city, county staff and local stakeholders and noted that the request raised standard questions about costs, site control and long-term maintenance.
