Commissioners agree to reimburse attorney fees for annex sub pump discharge right-of-way

The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners voted to reimburse legal costs related to securing a right-of-way for a sub pump discharge line constructed during the county annex project. The board approved payment of $9,877.67 to Darren Peterson to cover attorney fees incurred by his counsel, which had been advanced after outside counsel completed deed and right-of-way work.
County staff explained that the annex construction crossed property originally described as "no man's land" adjacent to DNL Cleaners, requiring quick-claim deeds and surveys. Wright Law Offices performed much of the final work; the county representative said earlier internal handling had not completed the work and Mr. Wright performed the necessary title work. The invoice originally totaled approximately $11,008.57; after removing unrelated items the requested reimbursement amount is $9,877.67.
A motion to pay Mr. Peterson $9,877.67 from the county contingency fund was moved, seconded and approved by roll call. Commissioners indicated the expense will be charged to contingency funds because the work was necessary for county infrastructure but had not been completed internally.
Following the vote, commissioners noted the property is now deeded with the recorded right-of-way and that staff will arrange payment and necessary accounting.
