The Dalles Historic Landmarks Commission voted to adopt its 2025 goals and approved two resolutions memorializing recent HLC decisions, and staff reported plans to pursue a SHPO grant and recruit a preservation-focused "rare" volunteer.
Commissioners voted separately to adopt HLC Resolution 203-25 and HLC Resolution 204-25, which memorialized the approvals for HLC applications discussed earlier in the meeting. Chair and staff carried out separate voice votes for each resolution; commissioners indicated aye for both resolutions.
Josh (planning staff) told the commission staff will present the adopted goals to City Council in February and pursue two follow-up actions: a SHPO (State Historic Preservation Office) grant with a February deadline and a volunteer recruitment effort (deadline in April) to support historic-preservation objectives. "We're going to be pursuing a rare volunteer this next year with the goal of having a rare volunteer that's focused entirely on historic preservation," Josh said, and staff will submit the SHPO grant application if feasible.
During commissioner reports, Bev Agee announced she will resign from the Historic Landmarks Commission effective Feb. 28. "I'm resigning from the board, effective February 28," Agee said, adding the decision followed personal consideration.
Other staff and commissioners provided updates about local heritage programs, museum staffing, and historical-photo research at the Oregon Historical Society. Commissioners also discussed upcoming public programs, including courthouse events and a Granada Theater presentation.
The meeting concluded after the commission moved to adjourn.
