Washington mayor, bicentennial committee outline August 2025 events

‘‘We would like to withdraw residents and communities of the surrounding areas to join in honoring the legacy of our father, our resilience through our diversity, and a bright future that lies ahead,’’ Muneer said, presenting a proclamation describing Washington’s settlement in 1825 by William Holland Sr. He reviewed historical highlights mentioned to the board, including the city’s early economy and the donation that created Glendale Cemetery.
Jennifer Esig, a member of the Washington Bicentennial Committee and a descendant of the town’s founder, told board members the committee has coordinated with local organizations, businesses and schools to stage multiple events during the bicentennial week. She said the schedule will include a parade, concerts, an art fair, a car show and a vintage tractor show. The committee also produced merchandise and a QR code linking to an online calendar of events.
Committee members presented gift bags to board members and announced a postcard program encouraging residents to pick up celebration bags at city hall. The presentation occurred during the public-comments portion of the meeting; the transcript does not show a county action tied to the presentation.
