District facilities staff told the board they plan to place a new main entrance at the back of Sparta High School because front‑side parking is insufficient and to reroute buses to a northwest lot that will use Montgomery Street signals. Staff said current plans convert the existing tennis courts to student parking and add ADA ramps and a pedestrian path from parking to the new entrance.
The presenter said the district will separate traffic into three zones — student, bus and parent/staff — to reduce conflicts and that a small path between an auxiliary gym and an adjacent hill will be barricaded for safe pedestrian crossing. Staff also confirmed buses will enter/exit via Montgomery Street while parents will use Black River Street for drop‑off and pickup.
On interior work, the district said two rooms at Sparta High School will receive sample flooring in late August for staff review and durability testing. Staff said a budget update and additional focus‑group sessions with teachers, tech‑ed and department leads are scheduled in the coming week to refine room uses for family and consumer science, business, English, social studies and fitness center spaces.
A board member asked whether the district would add cameras at the new entrance; the presenter said the district expects to add one or two cameras where feasible. Staff emphasized that these plans are tentative and subject to change as focus groups refine details.
