The Shelby County Board voted to approve revised standard operating procedures and standard operating guidelines (SOPs/SOGs) for the rescue squad on Aug. 14 after a public-safety committee review and input from squad members.
Commissioners and rescue-squad members worked together to revise the document, board members said. Commissioner Ross thanked squad members and staff for their work and noted the document was a group effort.
Commissioner Ross said the document’s “bones” were “really good and really well written and thought out,” and the board permitted minor grammatical corrections before final distribution. At least two commissioners emphasized the squad’s involvement in drafting and said the group expected to amend the policies over time if operational needs change.
The board called for a voice vote, heard an amendment to correct a few typographical items, approved the corrections, and then approved the SOPs/SOGs by voice vote. Board members noted that several squad members and county staff had participated in the drafting and review process.
The board also instructed staff to correct a handful of typos and return the finalized document for records. Members said the county could consider future amendments to address operational details as needed.
