Committee recommends Kennedy Middle School concrete repairs; $41,277.50 contractor proposal sent to finance

The Germantown School District Buildings & Grounds Committee voted Aug. 5 to forward a positive recommendation to the finance committee for concrete repairs at Kennedy Middle School, using D'Angelo's Construction LLC at a cost not to exceed $41,277.50, to be funded from Fund 41, the district's capital improvement fund. Kennedy Middle School needs repairs and replacements to sidewalks, curb lines and aprons that the committee said create safety and drainage problems and are difficult to maintain in winter. Frank Lord, Buildings & Grounds staff, described the work as including insulation and grading with stabilized crushed aggregate along a washed-out shoulder of the main drive “in order to better direct the drainage.” Lord said staff selected D'Angelo's Construction LLC “due to ongoing satisfaction of the previous work, fair pricing, and the all around commitment to the district's expectations thus far.” Lord stated the total project cost as "$41,277.50." Committee members asked that photos be included in the finance packet. The motion to move the recommendation to the finance committee was made by Trustee Ewart and seconded by Trustee Voyer; the committee carried the motion by voice vote. Committee discussion noted the contractor's short turnaround and the advantage of completing work before school starts; no RFP was issued for this task because staff cited turnaround time and the contractor—s assurance of completion prior to school. The finance committee will receive the Buildings & Grounds recommendation and the accompanying photos; final award and contract execution are subject to the finance committee and full board approval.
