District completes building tours; committee urges principals attend future walk-throughs

Germantown School District administrators completed the districtwide building tours Aug. 5 after visiting Kennedy Middle School and Germantown High School, Buildings & Grounds staff told the committee. The tours were intended to inspect interior and exterior conditions, identify priority items from the facilities condition assessment and to inform five- to 10-year planning and contracted-service decisions. Frank Lord, Buildings & Grounds staff, said the tours “concluded the district wide tours” and focused on items tied to the facilities condition assessment priority list and planning classifications, including contracted services, district maintenance and long-range planning. Committee members said the tours helped the public and board members visualize facility needs. Trustee Pollock and other committee members asked that building principals attend future tours so they can answer building-specific questions in real time. The committee discussed moving to a schedule of one building tour per month during the school year, with a brief report to Buildings & Grounds preceding committee meetings. Committee members thanked administrators and public attendees who participated in the tours. No vote was required; the item was informational.
