The work would cover asphalt repairs, striping and select sealing at Amy Bell Elementary, County Line Elementary, MacArthur Elementary and Kennedy Middle School, and includes a proposed mill-and-pave option for the northeast playground lot at Kennedy, according to the presentation to the committee.
Committee members were told the project is part of the district's five-year capital improvement plan. Frank Lord, presenting the item, said, “the total cost here should technically read $158,030 funded out of the Fund 1 Capital Improvements budget.” The motion forwarded to the full board, however, specified funding from the Fund 41 capital improvements budget; the committee record shows the motion passed on a voice vote and will go to the board for final approval.
Lord said the district issued a request for proposals to five contractors and recommended rolling all work forward with Johnson's and Sons Paving “to stay consistent, with accountability, and mobilization throughout the entire project.” Committee members asked whether striped areas would also be sealed; Lord said not all lots will be sealed, noting the high school student lots are in poor condition and will be scheduled for mill-and-repave in the near future rather than sealed now.
Motion language presented to the committee read: “to move forward with a positive recommendation to the full board of education to approve the 2025 district-wide asphalt services using Johnson and Sons Paving Company in an amount not to exceed $158,030 funded out of the Fund 41 capital improvements budget.” The motion was moved by Tom Barney and seconded by Eric Brown and carried on a voice vote.
Next steps: the recommendation will be placed on the board of education agenda for consideration and formal award; the committee did not set a separate timeline for construction or mobilization beyond noting it aligns with the five-year capital plan.
