The Black and Hispanic Caucus approved a $300 donation on a voice vote to Upright Ministries to help feed participants on a weekend youth trip to Splashdown Beach in Fishkill, New York. The donation vote occurred during a caucus meeting where members reviewed a single donation request.
The request came from Wayne McCray, identified in the meeting as a pastor at Upright Ministries, who said the trip is scheduled “this Saturday” and that organizers opened some seats to families because transportation was limited. “We have, there's 10 youth, 4 young adults, and 6 adults. So a total of 20,” McCray said, describing the group size and the program’s goal of keeping youth engaged in activities that could lead into fall programs such as robotics and soccer.
Madam Chair read the written request during the meeting and said the $300 would be used to cover food and park access costs. Committee members clarified the per-person costs during discussion; one member referenced a per-child rate of $47 while another later mentioned $49. The board did not specify how the $300 would be allocated across those per-person estimates beyond the chair’s statement that the money would “help cover food” for the trip.
A motion to approve the donation was made and seconded, and members voted in favor. Members who raised hands in support included Alder Singh, Alder Hogan, Alder Douglas and Alder Rodriguez; the chair also indicated assent. No opposition was recorded. The caucus instructed staff to disburse the approved funds to Upright Ministries for the described trip.
The donation was presented as a one-time allocation to support the immediate event; the caucus did not adopt any ongoing funding commitment or amend any existing budget line during the meeting.
