County wins grant to fund affordable housing study, staff says

San Juan County planning staff told commissioners that a grant application to fund an affordable housing study was approved and that the funding will pay for the full study. The county’s project manager said the grant provides up to 18 months to complete the work and staff expect the study will take about a year.

The planning department said the study will involve data gathering and public meetings but is not as extensive as a comprehensive plan or an outdoor recreation plan. Staff said the resulting study will provide another tool for the county to address housing availability and inform policy decisions.
