Santa Fe County adopts resolution backing Food Depot’s Neighbor to Neighbor drive

The resolution, co‑sponsored by Commissioner Hank Hughes and Chair Camilla Bustamante and filed as Resolution 2025-087, aims to encourage local donations to The Food Depot as federal SNAP reductions take effect. The board adopted the measure after brief remarks from commissioners noting the nonprofit’s regional reach and the county’s logistical support for the organization.
Commissioner Hank Hughes said the resolution was “pretty self explanatory” and urged donations as SNAP benefits are cut: “we just need to encourage everybody to donate a little bit of cash to them.” Chair Camilla Bustamante added praise for The Food Depot and for the county’s Connect program in linking people to services.
After the resolution passed, Amanda Bridal, communications director for The Food Depot, spoke to the commission. Bridal thanked the county for the resolution and for providing parking for Food Depot trucks. She invited commissioners to a September open house for The Food Depot’s Foodmobile program and distributed informational materials about SNAP changes affecting New Mexicans.
Mary Ferguson, a volunteer and Neighbor to Neighbor organizer, said the drive involves 117 groups across the Food Depot service area and described the program’s goal: “Our goal … is 500,000. Like I said, that's 2,000,000 meals.” Ferguson said each donated dollar feeds four people and highlighted neighborhood participation across the county.
The board’s action is meant to publicly support local fundraising and to acknowledge logistical cooperation between county staff and The Food Depot. The resolution number is 2025-087; commissioners did not attach additional county funding or enforcement measures to the resolution during the vote.
The county accepted printed materials from The Food Depot for distribution and commissioners and staff said they would share the September Foodmobile open house information through county channels.
