The Environmental Resources Committee on Sept. 2 voted to recommend that the Marathon County Board approve a petition from Merrywood Farms Inc. to rezone land east of Lincoln Spencer Road and County Road V in the Town of Spencer from Urban Residential (UR) to General Agriculture (GA).
CPZ staff told the committee the parcel is in the southeast corner of the southwest quarter of Section 32, Township 26 North, Range 2 East and identified the petitioner’s address and parcel number in the staff report. The Town of Spencer met on July 14 and recommended approval, and staff found the request met zoning district standards for size, frontage, access and dimension and was consistent with the town’s comprehensive plan as indicated in the town resolution.
Committee discussion noted the rezoning is being sought because the UR lot contains an existing house and the owners wish to construct an addition that would not meet current setbacks; rezoning to GA would allow the parcel to be combined with adjacent farm property to the north. With no public testimony, Supervisor Kroll moved to recommend approval based on staff findings and the town’s recommendation; Supervisor Curt seconded and the motion carried by voice vote.
The committee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Marathon County Board of Supervisors for final action. If the county board approves the change, CPZ staff recommended the town update any applicable comprehensive plan language.
