Hermiston — During the meeting’s citizen input period residents addressed two community items: a request for senior discounts for the city taxi service and an announcement about the Hermiston MLK march and event scheduled for Jan. 20, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Senior taxi discount request
Resident Caleb Jacobs asked whether the city’s regular taxi fares could include a senior discount. City staff and councilors responded that a discounted ticket program is available through the city and that the city also offers a free bus service; staff suggested residents contact the city to purchase discounted tickets.
MLK march and event
Dave Gracia, president of the Hermiston Cultural Awareness Coalition, announced the city’s annual MLK march on Jan. 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a program and refreshments staged at City Hall followed by a march on Main Street to Fourth Street and back to City Hall. Gracia said scholarships will be awarded during the event and thanked local sponsors.
No council action was required for either item; councilors acknowledged both the information and the offers of help and encouraged public participation.
