Parks and Recreation Director Esmeralda told the council the municipal golf course construction is nearing completion and staff are preparing to order concession equipment and schedule final inspections for food service. She said contractor delays have slowed final construction work but the course is close to opening.
Esmeralda reported the marina passed a pop-up county health inspection and received a 97% score on the Oregon State Marine Board Clean Marina program; she said the marina report will be included in the next semiannual packet. On recreation, staff reported expanded programming with multiple sessions of bingo and line-dancing classes, and four staff members are on track to complete a two-year National Recreation and Park Association event-management certification in January.
The city has not yet opened reservations for the newly adopted stage pending a required inspection, Esmeralda said. She announced Waterpalooza for the coming Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., National Night Out on Aug. 5 at Nugent Park from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and that volunteer applications are open through Aug. 16.
Council members and residents discussed merchandising and event partnerships; Esmeralda said community interest in park merchandise and concessions has been strong. Council thanked staff for their work and encouraged continued outreach to volunteer recruitment and local business partnerships.
Esmeralda also noted vendor and contractor supply challenges that have delayed final items but that progress to open concessions is imminent.
