Umatilla introduces new fire chief and contract city attorney at council meeting

Chris Baker said he began as fire chief on May 1 and has already led an assessment of staff and equipment. “We have a good base,” Baker told the council, but he said facilities and equipment need work and said he looked forward to stronger coordination between the city and the rural fire district when emergencies occur. He also described a recent field save in which firefighters and police performed CPR; the patient later left the hospital.
Maureen McGee, an attorney with the firm Tonge and Torp, said she is providing city attorney services to Umatilla and looked forward to meeting the council in person and working with staff.
No formal actions were associated with these introductions. City staff noted the new appointments and welcomed the officials to the city’s team; the introductions were informational and part of the city manager’s report.
