Umatilla names Nancy Miranda as planning commission secretary; Lyle Smith welcomed as new commissioner, vacancy posted after resignation

The Umatilla Planning Commission on Jan. 28 welcomed Lyle Smith as its newest commissioner, acknowledged the resignation of Commissioner Morgan and appointed Nancy Miranda as planning commission secretary.

Chair Nobles and planning staff introduced Lyle Smith and praised his community service. “He’s gonna be a huge asset to the planning commission,” Chair Nobles said. Lyle Smith told the commission he has lived in the community for more than 20 years and has prior experience on city council and state boards.

Staff announced Commissioner Morgan had resigned for health reasons, leaving one vacancy; staff said the vacancy posting has received three applicants so far and the city hopes to fill the seat before the February meeting. Because several commissioners were absent, the commission agreed to postpone the annual officer elections until a full body can attend, with Chair Nobles continuing to serve in the chair role for the time being.

Commissioner Cooper moved to appoint Nancy Miranda as secretary to the planning commission; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote. Miranda serves as an associate planner for the City of Umatilla and also presented staff reports during the meeting.

The commission said it will continue recruitment for the open seat and hold formal officer elections when a full complement of commissioners can attend.
