City staff updated the Sunbury Services Committee on Sept. 3 about construction progress at the wastewater treatment plant, showing aerial photos of excavation and rebar and telling committee members that major digester work is on schedule.
Carla, the presenter and city staff member, displayed drone imagery and described the scale of the work: “If you if you can't get a sense of the plant is doubling from this picture, I don't know what else will show it. But this definitely, gives you an idea.” She said the aerobic digester excavation is about 20 feet deep and that rebar is rising to ground level as crews prepare to pour walls.
Staff told the committee the digester work involves large excavations and is a major portion of this year's construction activity at the plant. Committee members asked about public site visits; staff said visitors should wear close‑toed shoes and hard hats and that staff would coordinate tours through the plant’s main building and job trailer.
Carla said there have been no schedule slips so far: “They are on schedule for the treatment plant so far. I'm hoping that once the the aerobic digesters get a little further along, I can start talking about some of the other components that they're going to start focusing on, but I'll let you know if there's any sort of delay or concern with any portion of the project. But so far, it's been moving along nicely.”
Ending: Staff said they will notify the committee about any delays; community tours can be arranged with advance notice and appropriate safety gear.
