Parks staff told the Parks Committee that a disc golf fundraiser called Chains for Change has been reviewed by department reviewers and cleared for the park disc golf course, and that the event organizer plans to donate all proceeds to build a home in Mexico for a family in need.
Staff said the organizer presented the event to the events committee previously but was not present at this meeting. According to staff, “100% of the proceeds that he's taking in that day will go towards the building of this house in Mexico for a family in need.” Fire, emergency services and the parks services team reviewed the plan and told staff the event “looks great,” staff said.
Committee members noted permit thresholds that typically apply to special events; one member said, “if it's more than 25 people, it's longer than 6 hours, I think, is the standard.” Staff told the committee the disc golf portion of the park is often used for this purpose, and because there were no objections the item did not require a formal vote and the committee moved on.
Staff said the organizer has provided a rain date and committed to cleaning up trash and restoring the park after the event. The permit form is included on page 5 of the committee packet. The committee did not record a formal vote at the meeting; staff will continue to coordinate with the organizer on final logistics.
