Troy Damsig introduced himself to the Fond du Lac City Council on Aug. 20 as the interim judge for Lakeside Municipal Court, a position he will hold until a special election on Nov. 4. Damsig said he has been performing the role since about Aug. 1 after the retirement of the previous judge.
Damsig outlined his career in local public safety and education, saying he grew up in the area and worked as a 9‑1‑1 dispatcher, a sworn police officer and a captain before retiring July 6. He said Lakeside Municipal Court “serves 23 communities across 3 counties” and that the court “has processed 6,059 cases” in the first seven months of the year, projecting about 10,500 cases if the rate continues.
Damsig said the court handles state traffic and municipal ordinance violations and urged residents to contact the court with questions. He emphasized protecting citizens’ rights and said his law enforcement experience and academic credentials help him in the bench role. The council did not take formal action on the introduction; it was presented as an informational item.
