The Provo City Council adopted its 2026 regular meeting schedule and, by a 5-2 vote, removed the Nov. 17 meeting from the published calendar. Justin Harrison, the council's executive director, told the council that state code requires the governing body to formally adopt its meeting schedule each year. He said the proposed calendar included two planned budget-priority work meetings at the beginning of the year and that meeting dates can be added or canceled later if workload requires. Councilor Becky Bogdan moved to remove the Nov. 17 meeting, saying staff need predictable breaks and that published meetings shape staff workloads. “Once we publish this, this is what staff uses to put things on there,” Bogdan said, urging that removing the date send a clearer message about staff availability during holiday periods. Another councilor opposed removing the meeting, preferring to keep the schedule intact to maintain continuity and accountability; that member said they would rather retain regular meeting dates than create several three-week gaps in the schedule. The motion to remove Nov. 17 was seconded by Councilor Katrice McKay and passed 5-2. The council approved the rest of the proposed 2026 calendar as amended. Staff noted that meetings can be added later and special meetings may be posted as needed.
