FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — The Fayette County Commission voted Aug. 6 to proceed with a purchase agreement for the Scarborough New River Health Association building at 908 Scarborough Road with an accepted offer of $160,000 and authorized county counsel to handle the closing.
County staff reported that negotiations concluded with an accepted offer of $160,000 and presented a standard real estate purchase agreement for the commission to approve and forward to the seller’s counsel. “We made an offer, and they accepted it, for a purchase price of a $160,000,” Michael said during the meeting.
The commission voted to approve the draft purchase agreement and authorized Paul Clay’s office to conduct the closing and instructed the county administrator to take required administrative steps to schedule it. Commissioners indicated they did not anticipate substantive issues with the seller’s side but moved to authorize timely closing activities.
Why it matters: The county’s planned acquisition of the New River Health building will place ownership with the county; staff said the purchase is a typical real estate transaction and asked the commission to authorize closing procedures so the county can finalize acquisition steps.
Next steps: County counsel to schedule closing and the county administrator to execute necessary administrative actions to complete the acquisition.
